If your hair is already a medium brown and you want to go dark brown, do you have to use a filler color?

I want to color my hair at home. My hair is a light to medium brown (its near its natural color). If I want to go really dark brown, would I have to use a filler color? Or can I just go straight to dark brown?

That depends on whther or not you have already colored your hair. If you have, the hair is more porous and will not hold the new color as well. If you haven't, then you can color right away. Another option would be a semi-permanent color which will darken your hair and not require a filler. If your hair is pretty healthy I would just lightly spray it down with a leave-in conditioner before coloring and brush it through.
