How do big, medium and small IT services companies get work?

I have always wondered, not being in the IT industry, how do the companies get so much of IT work, and is it really worth the value that is assigned to it!! Another questions that always bugs me is how do the small and medium size companies get work, when there are bigger companies doing the similar work?

I work for a small IT company. We do contracting work for the Fedreal Government. The post the contracts, we bid on them, and that's how we keep our business running.





Contracting is the best way to start your own IT company. Even when you only have 15 employees, you can probably make 1 million a year; if you have the right employees to do the work :-)
