What is a good hardtail with 140 mm of suspension for all mountain and medium drops (limited Dirt Jumping)?

I have looked at the Kona five 0 but this seems to be a dirt jumping bike. I want a hardtail with enough suspension in the fork for rocky descents and medium drops and jumps, but not a bike for dirt jumping,

Any suggestions?

I do believe that this is the perfect bike for you...

What you're looking for is a hardtail freeride bike, and the one linked above is exactly what you'd want. Slacker headtube angle for descents, a frame that can take a lot of abuse, and excellent components for the money.

Norco also makes great FR hardtails...

The Kona Five 0 is great as a freeride hardtail. It's built as a do-everything hardtail. Dirtjumps? Sure, but it doesn't excel at them. XC? Of course. Freeride? That's what this beast is built for man, straight up freeride.

There's lots of bikes out there, so try to ride one and see if it fits you, pick a pretty color, and buy that thing.

Good Luck,

Reply:Santa Cruz Chameleon, Banshe Viento or Scirocco, Cove has also several good ones.
Reply:I'll second Tibug's recommendation for the Jamis Komodo. I built up an '06 frame and have ridden it for xc, light freeride, serious urban abuse with numerous 5' and 6' drops to flat concrete, and even raced it (xc). I've had 100mm and 130mm forks on it.....it's just a very nice and versatile ride. Extremely tuff! It was designed around 130mm, but you can go up to about 150mm safely if you want. The head is pretty slack, so if you want to get into much xc or stunts, go for a smaller sized frame and use a shorter fork. For general trail and freeride, it's just fine the way it is. It has a pretty long top tube compared to jump bikes....which, combined with the slack head, should point out to you that it's made for rough stuff and downhills. The head is strongly reinforced, and the bi-oval downtube is pretty beefy....you'll be amazed at the chain and seat stays, too. The only slight disadvantage is that the max rear tire size is about 2.3 (I have a 2.4 Holy Roller on mine, but it's minimal tread....it's a close fit). I'll attest to its durability....it's a bomber.

The '08 Komodos got really beefed up and dedicated to freeride hucking, with a 1.5 steerer. Jenson has a killer deal on them....I know 4 people that jumped on them last time Jenson ran the '05 and '06 models for sale and all have been really happy.

The Chameleon is a good one, so is the Kona Five-0 you mentioned....both supertuff bikes. If you're not keen on the Jamis, I'd recommend you seriously check out the Kona. Also, take a look at the Transition Vagrant.....it's made for abuse. http://www.transitionbikes.com

Have fun shopping....and be careful out there! :o)
