Is it safe to eat bluegill out of a small/medium lake?

I live on a small/medium lake that has houses around about 70% of it. Is it safe to eat the bluegill from a lake like this or is there too much danger of contamination? I have seen lots of other people take fish from this lake. Also, there have never been any reports of the water being polluted.

Smell the lake water. Alot of those small lakes they put houses around treat their water with chemicals to make it look pretty. The problem with this is most of the time it's bad for the fish, and the people eating them. Does the water look normal? If it;s too blue, thats no good, and if it smells like chlorine dont eat the fish.
Reply:I would feel safe eating them!
Reply:i wouldn't
Reply:I would
Reply:If there be others that fish the lake I wouldn't worry about it, especially if there has not been a public outcry on pollutants...
Reply:Well if you live on the lake you should have a pretty good idea of how polluted it is.

Anyway, generally there are physical signs of illness with fish, i.e. spotting, cloudy eyes, swollen gills etc.
