I like my steak medium-rare but i've heard it's unhealthy. Is it safe for children also?
Is it safe to eat rare or medium rare meat?
There is a greater chance of bacteria like Escherichia coli (e coli) to be on the meat and making you sick if it is not thoroughly cooked. However if the meat is properly handled this should not be an issue. Other than that rare or medium well meat is actually better for you as more of the vitamins and minerals are not removed from the meat. For a young child I would use caution as their immune system is not as strong as an adult. For an adult you should be OK if you are healthy. Even still I always cook mine medium rare or medium. For bacteria to be killed the center of the meat needs to be over 155 degrees for at least 3 minutes. Hamburger I would not take the chance. Pork or chicken don't even think out it!
Reply:I like it medium-rare too, but I don't recommend it for your children!!! I eat it occasionally.
Reply:Meat as in steak definitely yes .You can actually eat it raw . If you like it really rare the next time that you're in a steak-house order a black and blue steak
Reply:my wife eats it very rare and she's fine. so I guess it's safe.
I gotta have it well done or I can't eat it.
Reply:For you yes - for your children NO
Reply:I think steak is okay but I have heard it takes longer to digest the rarer it is. My father in law likes his still bleeding but his farts aftre eating it can clear the entire house!!! He stinks!!!
