Has anyone who has medium brown hair successfully lightened their hair blonde at home?

I get my hair done at the salon and it's naturally medium brown but with my foils it's a Jessica Simpson color. Just seeing if anyone has mastered lightening their hair to a pale blonde at home for cheaper than at the salon? Thanks :)

Yes, I do my foils myself with help from my sister.

You can use normal kitchen foil and buy yourself a brush with a fine tip used to part each section of hair and plastic gloves. Use a plastic bowl or container (do not use metal as the chemicals in the metal will react with the product) .

You should go to a hairdressing shop eg Price attack, if you live in Australia. and buy the hair products that they use in a hairdressing salon not those that you can purchases from a grocery store in a box. The tint and developer. Ask the shop keeper for advice on the quantity for how much dye is needed for your foils.

You must wash you hair with shampoo only within 24 hours before doing your foils. This will allow your hair to soak up all the dye. and you will get much better results.

Some foils may develop faster then others. you must check the foils after approx 30mins. if the hair looks the right colour you must then put water on the selected foil to inactivate the dye and to avoid drying out your hair.

Leave them in for no longer then 60mins.Once all foils have developed and are the colour that you are after you should then wash the dye out. but to begin with wet your hair with warm water, so that your hair cuticles open and absorb more colour. after approx 3mins you can then wash it out.

sorry if i have gone and given you a heap of info that you already know. I hope my advice helps.
Reply:I have - my hair is naturally light to medium brown - I am in Ontario, Canada... we have a product called Blondissima that strips the colour from your hair - usually that is all I need to lighten it, but if you don't like the stripped colour, it is then light enough for you to put any blonde shade you like. How's that for a run on sentence? You can basically use any stripper product.
