Will i need to give my medium hair cat a bath?

I have medium hair and short hair kittens, right now they are 9 weeks or so old. Will there be any reason for me to give them a bath, especially the medium haired one? i have heard that it isn't necessary unless they are sick or old and unable to groom themselves. If this is true, should i get my kittens used to water so it won't be such a fuss later on?

Will i need to give my medium hair cat a bath?
no, not untill they get a little older and smell
Reply:I have 2 loge haired cats and they are inside cats, They do clean themselves but I like to bath them just to be sure they are really clean atleast every 2 weeks. They are used to it now. If they were in/outside cats it would be more probably because if they get on your furniture. It's up to you, if it's something you will be doing throughout there entire life.
Reply:No cats clean themselves and it is not good for you to bathe them because they can catch a chill and get sick!
Reply:They shouldn't need a bath, unless they get dirty.
Reply:Generally, no, you don't need to bathe a cat. Regular brushing will do them a world of good though, and if you start them early, they tend to love it. It's great bonding time, too.

My short hair cat LOVES to be brushed. My long hair cat is less fond of it, in fact we have to hold him down to do it, but he keeps himself immaculately clean and groomed. We've only found knots in his hair twice and they were tiny. Of course, I've never seen anyone, human or animal, as vain as that cat!
Reply:My kitten likes water but I think that most cat's hate it. You shouldn't have to bath your cat, and if you do they sell a spray at wal mart or pet supplies that you just rub in and dry off that cleans them. I say getting your kitten used to water would be a good thing just for the sake of him not being afraid of it. Be aware though he might be a pain when he wants to play in the faucets and sleep in sinks like mine.lol
Reply:If they get really messy you might have to give them a bath. My cat frequently rolls around in his own feces sometimes and does not clean himself, so he has to have frequent baths.

And it is true that if you get them used to water as kittens, it will be easier. He started being naughty early on and fought at first, but now he is a pro in the water.
