How much is one medium jalapeno chile?

I have a recipe that calls for "one medium jalapeno chile, stemmed, seeded and minced." But I could not find this ingredient at the grocery store. Instead, I bought a small can of "chopped green chiles." Granted, what I bought won't have the same "bite" as the jalapeno. But my question is how much should I use? The can is 4.5 ounces. How many ounces would make up "one medium jalapeno chile, stemmed, seeded and minced?"

Next time you're at the supermarket, make sure to check the produce section. Jalapenos are widely available everywhere. You would find them where all the other peppers are. Of course, you would have to stem, seed and mince it yourself.

Another option is to buy jalapenos slices in a jar. You can find those where the pickles and roasted red peppers are in the market.

I would use at least 2 tablespoons. Green chilis are very mild.
